About the Test

What is the Cut-e Test?

Cut-e is a pilot aptitude test and is now known as Aon's Assessment Solutions. It is taken by airlines and flight schools all over the world to shortlist candidates and to measure pilot competency.

Aon's Cut-e test consists of the highest number of assessments among all of the pilot aptitude testing programs. The assessments are grouped into aptitude and skills tests, and logic tests.

The Programs

Aptitude and Skills Tests

Language Skills (scales lt)

This test measures English language proficiency. In the Language Skills test, you have 10 minutes to complete three task types. These include filling in the blanks, selecting words based on definitions and selecting the correct spelling of a word.

Cut-e Mechanical Reasoning (scales mtu) test showing a mechanical diagram with multiple-choice questions

Mechanical Reasoning (scales mtu)

This test measures your mechanical and technical understanding, as well as assessing your ability to identify correct information from a mechanical graphic. The test includes 24 tasks and takes 15 minutes to complete. You have to find the relevant information in order to respond to different types of questions.

Cut-e Numerical Reasoning (scales numerical) test showing data tables and charts with questions

Numerical Reasoning (scales numerical)

This test measures your aptitude. You have to analyse, evaluate and draw logical conclusions from the data presented in tables and charts. It captures how well you locate relevant information when confronted with different types of questions. The test includes 37 tasks, but you get 12 minutes to complete it.

Cut-e Understanding of Basic Instructions (scales verbal instruct) test showing written instructions with questions

Understanding of Basic Instructions (scales verbal instruct)

This Cut-e test measures your aptitude for understanding, analysing and drawing logical conclusions from information presented in written text. It measures how well you locate relevant information when approached with different types of questions. You have 8 minutes to complete 24 tasks.

Cut-e Verbal Reasoning (scales verbal) test showing a passage of text with true, false and cannot-say options

Verbal Reasoning (scales verbal)

This Cut-e pilot test measures your aptitude for understanding, analysing and drawing logical conclusions from written text. The test includes 49 tasks and you get 12 minutes to complete as many tasks as you can. Accuracy also matters.

Cut-e Gamified Situational Judgement Test (chatAssess) showing a chat-style work scenario with response options

Gamified Situational Judgement Test (chatAssess)

Not every airline takes this test. It measures your judgement regarding work-related scenarios. The scenarios represent situations that you may face in the job you are applying for. This Cut-e test helps draw conclusions regarding your behaviour, personality and abilities at work. The assessment can be timed or untimed. You will be informed about the time limit before the actual test.

Cut-e Basic Numerical Comprehension (scales eql) test showing a mental arithmetic question with answer options

Basic Numerical Comprehension (scales eql)

You get five minutes to solve as many basic numerical questions as you can. It includes addition, subtraction and multiplication questions that can be done mentally.

Cut-e Working Memory (gridChallenge) test showing a grid pattern to memorise and reproduce

Working Memory (gridChallenge)

This test measures your ability to keep something in mind while simultaneously trying to process other information. You get nine minutes to complete nine tasks of varying difficulty.

Cut-e Ability to Concentrate (scales e3+) test showing E-shapes with dots and correct/incorrect options

Ability to Concentrate (scales e3+)

This test measures your ability to concentrate. You get two minutes to complete as many tasks as possible. You will get questions with different shapes and you have to select correct or incorrect. If the shape is an E with exactly 3 dots next to it, then you have to select correct. You are marked on how many tasks you complete as quickly and as accurately as possible.

Cut-e Numeracy (digitChallenge) test showing numerical problems with answer options

Numeracy (digitChallenge)

You get 6 minutes to complete as many tasks as possible. It is similar to Basic Numerical Comprehension, but with questions that require more thinking.

The Programs

Logic Tests

Cut-e Inductive Logical Reasoning (scales clx) test showing a group of items with patterns to identify

Inductive Logical Reasoning (scales clx)

This test measures your aptitude for inductive logical reasoning. You have to look at a group of items, observe common patterns and interrelationships in order to draw logical conclusions. You get 6 minutes to complete as many tasks as you can.

Cut-e Inductive Logical Reasoning (scales ix) test showing items with patterns and relationships to work out

Inductive Logical Reasoning (scales ix)

This test measures your ability to look at a group of items, observe common patterns and interrelationships to draw logical conclusions. This Cut-e test includes 20 tasks and you get five minutes to complete them.

Cut-e Deductive-Logical Thinking (gapChallenge) test showing a sequence with a gap to fill using the correct rule

Deductive-Logical Thinking (gapChallenge)

You are assessed on your ability to work out rules and patterns and to apply them correctly. You get 6 minutes to complete as many tasks as quickly and accurately as possible.

Cut-e Inductive-Logical Thinking (scales cls) test showing pattern groups with new images to assign

Inductive-Logical Thinking (scales cls)

You get 12 minutes to complete 12 tasks. The tasks measure your ability to understand common rules in the patterns given and then assign new images to the relevant patterns.
